Dear Family and Friends,

Many of you have expressed interest at various times during my service about wanting to support a program or send supplies. Until this time, I have not had anything specific in mind, however, this school vacation has given rise to a new program. Meg (another PCV) and I are planning a literacy program/camp to take place over the summer. Since schools are no longer in session, there is very little for most children to do with their time. We are expanding on a Saturday morning reading program in her community to meet twice weekly for a few hours. We anticipate to have about 12-15 children per day between the ages of 7-14. Many of the children that attend need basic literacy skills or improvement in their reading. We will meet in the community centre to teach reading and writing using a positive and fun approach.

Because we are volunteers, we are unable to purchase supplies for this program. We are seeking funds from local businesses and shops in order to purchase the school supplies and materials necessary to have a successful camp. However, if anyone is interested in either sending supplies or a monetary donation, please contact me. I can give you a better idea of what our needs are.
